How to calculate FEMA hinge parameters?

Question:

Hi,

Do you have more information on how FEMA hinge values on Civil? manual for example? below you can see about 3.99 rad of DY rotation, it looks a lot, how is it calculated? and how to calculate point C?

thanks

regards

Answer:

Hi,

I think you are asking how CP is calculated for the FEMA-type hinge.
FEMA specifies 0.02 of PLASTIC ROTATION for CP as shown below.

In Civil, the hinge rotation is described as D/DY ( = total rotation / Yield Rotation).
Total rotation = Yield rotation + plastic rotation.
Yield Rotation = 3.994e-5
Plastic Rotation for CP = 0.02
Therefore, CP = (3.994e-5 + 0.02)/3.994e-5 = 501.7

We can see the exact value of DY by selecting "User Input".
Also, we can give user-defined values by selecting the "User-input"
