ECS and ERSC results

Question:

Dear Sir

Our user yuksel proje has a query about ECS.
Please see attachment of SAP results of F11, F22, M11, M22, V13, V23 in GTSNX.

you can see the GTSNX model of the shaft as attachment. Shaft and tunnel Csys has corrected by using mesh>element>parameters> 2D> change Csys. and analyses case >output control tab  cylindrical Csys has been selected  as result csys
However we couldnt sure which direction of GTSNX results are comparable with SAP 2000 results
Please answer
Membrane force XX = ??? in SAP2000
Membrane force YY=  ??? in SAP2000
Membrane force XY=  ??? in SAP2000
Bending moment XX= ??? in SAP2000
Bending Moment YY= ??? in SAP2000
Bending moment XY= ??? in SAP2000
Shear force XZ= ??? in SAP2000
Shear Force YZ= ??? in SAP2000

This is an urgent project and yuksel proje is our best uer in Turkey so could you please response this ASAP

Regards

Answer:

Please refer direction of member forces to below which are compared to SAP 2000.

For your information, i don't have any experience to carry out analysis with this SAP 2000. So, i asked structural engineer about this.

GTS NX SAP2000
MEMBRANE FORCE XX F11
MEMBRANE FORCE YY F22
MEMBRANE FORCE XY F12
BENDING MOMENT XX M11
BENDING MOMENT YY M22
BENDING MOMENT XY M12
TRANSVERSE SHEAR FORCE XZ V13
TRANSVERSE SHEAR FORCE YZ V23

As you know, this forces are based on ECS (Element coordinate system).

Dear Choi,
Unfortunately your answer is not enough for me.

There are some options as ERCS in output control , i.e  selected csys, element csys >> rectangular or cylinderical. What is the differences between this results options?
For shafts which ERCS I should select to compare truely with Sap2000

Hi,

Your query was....

Membrane force XX = ??? in SAP2000
Membrane force YY=  ??? in SAP2000
Membrane force XY=  ??? in SAP2000
Bending moment XX= ??? in SAP2000
Bending Moment YY= ??? in SAP2000
Bending moment XY= ??? in SAP2000
Shear force XZ= ??? in SAP2000
Shear Force YZ= ??? in SAP2000

And, ECS & ERCS are coordinate system for the results.

Details of these, you can find it from "User Manual".

Anyway, i'm looking for cylindrical Csys now.

Dear Choi,

I already checked in detailed analyses reference manual chapter3 . but unfortunately this isssue is not clear in there. I am not sure if I should select global rectangular or cylinderical as ERSC.
The company wants to compare sap2000 and gtsnx results of circular shaft model so I need clear answer from you that which ERCS I should choose from output control so that I can get comparable answer from GTSNX for sap2000. I appreciate if you can discuss this with your structural engineers.

Thanks for your help in advance

Regards,

Hi,

If you set the element results CSys manually, the result will follow it. So, you don't need to care about ECS / MCS and others just consider what you set at output control.

And, for your information Cylindrical CSys is normally using at axi-symmetric analysis. so, you can use rectangular Csys.

xx is red, yy is green, zz is blue as you known.

Thanks N Regards
