Pile group deflections: Soilworks x Piglet

Question:

Dear all,

Is anyone aware of displacements results for pile group, comparing against PIGLET?

Regards

Answer:

Hi,

Is there any issue?

Piotr Stepien

Dear Piotr,

I have found larger displacements and rotation in Piglet than Soilworks outputs, for pile group analysis.

Hi,

Generally (and honestly speaking) we don't have Piglet in our office. ( I will check)
Doing comparison/benchmark requires access to software license and software itself to check if every single option works the same in both software.

Did you try to create simple model and compare results? (I mean in reference to some benchmark paper to be sure which software produces right results)

If yes you can send to us those reference material.
Then we will see with developers what to do.

Regards,
Piotr

Hi Piotr,

Thanks for your response.

Please find attached the files:

- Excel sheets - Piglet (runs with .dll file in the same folder)

- Soilworks file

- Summary of comparisons

In our project we need to consider free-standing 2.0m depth. I am not sure how to model that on Soilworks. I have just considered a soft material on the top.

Hello,

Give me some time to check.

Piotr

Dear Sir,

We downloaded Manual of Piglet trying to understand formulas and software itself. However to compare two “calculators” we have to know detailed input used in both software as well as used formulas.

Comparing PIGLET with Soil Works it is difficult to find matching input parameters. For example in Soil Works user does not have any access to use E or G input. In Piglet is opposite.

This is why we are expecting different “background” of Piglet.

Comparing results will be more efficient when we will be able to use the same input.

Regards,
Piotr
