Questions regarding to modeling and analysis

Question:

Hello,

I have three question regarding Midas Gen, they are as follows:

1) How is possible to take into account the temperature effects in a steel structure? like in a roof, where we model one support as pinned and the other support ar roller to have free movement.
2) The order to model a truss, is it possible to have 2 square angles instead of 2 L angles to create the top or bottom chord in a truss?
3) Is there any tutorial, video or more information about how to perform a nonlinear time-history? I know in this case we can run a model that include an earthquake record and the information of the plastic hinges, but in some other software like ETABS is possible to match an earthquake record to a response spectrum. Is this possible in Midas?

Thank you.

1) How is possible to take into account the temperature effects in a steel structure? like in a roof, where we model one support as pinned and the other support ar roller to have free movement.
à It is possible to take the temperature effect in a steel structure Load with the Element Temp. function via Load > Temp./prestress > Element Temp.
2) The order to model a truss, is it possible to have 2 square angles instead of 2 L angles to create the top or bottom chord in a truss?
à The information you have provided us is insufficient to fully analyse the issue at the moment. Thus I would like to request further information for the section.
3) Is there any tutorial, video or more information about how to perform a nonlinear time-history? I know in this case we can run a model that include an earthquake record and the information of the plastic hinges, but in some other software like ETABS is possible to match an earthquake record to a response spectrum. To perform the nonlinear time-history with the plastic hinge, first the plastic hinge property should be assigned with inelastic hinge properties & assign inelastic hinge properties. For that, please refer to the online manual from below link.
http://manual.midasuser.com/EN_Common/Gen/865/Start/04_Model/05_Properties/Inelastic_Hinge_Properties.htm
And to define the nonlinear time history, please refer to the App4_Time history analysis via C:\Program Files\MIDAS\midas Gen\Manual\Tutorials. It is about the linear time history, but the process is same with the nonlinear time history. Just change the option with nonlinear time history in the 20 page of the pdf.
Thank you.

Hello...

I have been out of my office. I will try to reach you out in the coming days.

Thank you.

Hello,

In my 2nd item from my previous email, I am attaching a sketch of what I mean when I say that I want to model a truss and I want to model two HSS square in the top and bottom chord.

Thank you.

Hello,
