Definition of Loads for Construction Stage

Question:

Good afternoon,

I am having trouble tracking how MIDAS is applying loads that I apply during construction stages. If I apply the loads to a construction stage, say the “Selfweight” load case does this load case also have to be included in the load combination or is it already being applied in the construction stage load case? Is there a way for me to verify that the loads applied during the construction stage are correct and are being applied to correctly for design? The table that shows the forces/moments being applied for design does not show the construction stage loads.

For loads that are being assigned in a construction stage, does their type need to be set to construction stage or DC/DW? I have a bridge that is being have constructed with a wearing surface then the other half constructed so the wearing surface will be applied in two separate load cases with typical DC loads.

Can I just define loads in a static load case that will only be applied in the final condition? Or do they also need to be applied in “Load Cases to be Distinguished from Dead Load for C.S. Output” under “Construction Stage Analysis Control Data”.

Answer:Hi,

If you activate Selfweight on the construction stage, you can add Dead Load(CS) to load combination. Selfweight is included on ‘Dead Load(CS)’.
You can view the result on construction stage loads by selecting a construction stage in the model view as shown below.





You can define the wearing surface load as CS type and apply in “Load Cases to be Distinguished form Dead Load for C.S. Output”. Then you can apply different factor for load combinations to DC and DW.

You can define loads as CS type and apply in “Load Cases to be Distinguished form Dead Load for C.S. Output” as you said. Or you said that you want to view the result of the load on Post C.S, you can define the load applied not CS type.
